Short version: Walkie Talkie offline is designed for direct nearby communication. The app does not run a developer-operated account system, analytics service, advertising system, or cloud message storage. Voice, text, and file signals are sent directly between nearby devices using LAN, Wi-Fi Direct, or Bluetooth when you choose to use those features.
Information We Collect
The app may access or process the following information on your device when you use its features:
- Microphone audio: used to transmit live push-to-talk or hands-free voice to nearby connected devices.
- Local display name or callsign: used so nearby devices can identify you during discovery, chat, and voice communication.
- Text messages: messages you type are sent to nearby devices on the selected transport.
- Selected files and file metadata: when you choose a file, the app may use its file name, size, MIME type, and local content URI to show and signal the transfer in the app.
- Nearby device and network information: the app may process Wi-Fi Direct peer names, Bluetooth device names or addresses, local IP addresses, and LAN discovery packets to find and connect nearby devices.
- QR or SDP link data: if you use the QR scanner or paste a link code, the app reads that code to help establish a partner connection.
- App settings: channel number, communication mode, audio quality, background mode, direct IP or domain values, and similar preferences are saved locally on your device.
How We Use Information
The app uses the information above only to provide app functionality, including:
- capturing live voice and sending it to selected nearby devices;
- receiving and playing live voice from nearby devices;
- discovering peers on the same Wi-Fi network, through Wi-Fi Direct, or through Bluetooth;
- sending and receiving text messages and file transfer signals;
- saving your callsign, channel, selected mode, and app preferences; and
- showing connection status, active speaker state, and transfer progress inside the app.
Direct Device Communication
Walkie Talkie offline is built around direct device-to-device communication. Depending on the mode you select, voice and messages may be transmitted over local multicast or broadcast UDP, Wi-Fi Direct, or Bluetooth sockets. Other devices on the same local network, Wi-Fi Direct group, or Bluetooth connection may receive the data you transmit.
The developer does not operate a server that stores your voice, chat messages, selected files, or nearby device list.
Permissions
The app requests Android permissions needed for walkie-talkie and nearby communication features:
- Microphone: required for live voice transmission and foreground microphone service features.
- Nearby devices, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi permissions: required to scan, advertise, connect, and communicate with nearby devices.
- Location permission: requested because Android may require location-related permission for certain Wi-Fi and Bluetooth discovery APIs. The app does not use GPS location tracking.
- Internet and network state permissions: used for local IP networking, UDP communication, multicast, broadcast, and direct addressing features.
- Notifications and foreground service: used when the app runs communication features in the foreground or background, depending on your settings.
- Audio settings: used to route audio through speaker, earpiece, Bluetooth, or headset options.
- Camera through Google code scanner: used only when you choose to scan a QR code for pairing or link setup.
Local Storage
The app stores preferences locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences. This may include your callsign, selected channel, communication mode, background mode, audio settings, direct IP or domain values, QR or SDP link text, and similar configuration options.
Chat history and active transfer entries are maintained in app memory for the current app session unless the app separately stores them in a future version.
Cloud Backup
The Android manifest allows device backup. Depending on your Android version, Google account settings, and device backup configuration, app data such as local preferences may be included in Android system backup or device transfer. This backup is controlled by Android and Google, not by a developer-operated app server.
Third-Party Services
The app uses Google Play services code scanning to scan QR codes when you choose that feature. The app does not include advertising, developer-operated analytics, or developer-operated crash reporting in the reviewed source.
Sharing With Others
We do not sell personal information. The app shares data only as part of features you initiate, such as sending voice, text, file transfer signals, device discovery beacons, or pairing codes to nearby devices.
Security
Direct local communication can be received by devices connected through the same selected channel, local network, Wi-Fi Direct group, or Bluetooth connection. Use the app only with people and networks you trust. Avoid sending sensitive personal, financial, medical, or confidential information through local broadcast or nearby device channels.
Children
The app is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us so we can review the issue.
Your Choices
You can control the app's access and data by:
- denying or revoking permissions in Android settings;
- turning off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, microphone, or notifications at the system level;
- changing or clearing your callsign and app settings; and
- uninstalling the app to remove local app data from your device, subject to Android backup behavior.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
